jason and sarah getting married
About the bride
I am an MK from Hawaii who somehow landed all the way over on the East Coast for college. I enjoy reading, puzzles of all kinds, dead languages, and ugly colors. I hate roses.
About the groom
Jason is a super driven second generation Taiwanese American from Maine. He enjoys all kinds of challenges, Russian literature, genetics, and the extemporaneous composition of funny songs. He has no opinion on roses.
About the new us
Right after the wedding we'll head up to Boston! We've found a place and all I need to do is learn how to be domestic. Finding a job is a higher priority than becoming domestic, but both are definitely serious goals.

How we got engaged
Jason's family came to Hawaii for their summer vacation and my family planned a 4th of July barbecue for everyone to eat together.
Note also: the night before, my family drove out to Jason's family's hotel on the west side of the island and stayed until after the sunset. On the drive back, Jason called my dad's cell phone repeatedly in order to ask his permission to propose. Unfortunately, I was sitting shotgun next to my dad driving and answered it. The first time he called he got flustered and hung up as soon as I said hello. The second time he asked if we were home yet. The third time he said that his parents wanted to ask my dad a question, so I should tell my dad to call them when he got home. I had no idea what was going on. :] It turned out out that when my dad finally did get home he took the call and stayed behind in the dark to make sure I couldn't interfere anymore.
Anyways, the afternoon of the barbecue my mom made me change my shirt out of my favorite sheep-with-cartoon-bling tshirt and I was very annoyed. It's my favorite kind of kitsch and it was only three dollars in India. It is great. Whatever, I thought. A few minutes later, Jason asked if I'd like to go for a walk and I said yes. As we were walking he held my hand, verbally admired my slender fingers, and kept asking if we were there yet, but I didn't want to stop until we came to a koi pond and streamlet. Seriously, I had no idea! although I should have known from the way he was measuring our hands to each other. We hopped on the rocks and enjoyed the scenery, and then sat down on a little hill.
As we were sitting, he pulled out his little black diary. I was just so happy from the past few days of our families being together that I didn't really notice or care. He motioned towards the diary and asked me if I had ever read it. I said no, and replied no again when he asked me if I'd like to hear what he had written. Silly me! He went ahead and read to me the sweetest things about me, about us, and how he saw our future. He closed the book, put it in his pocket, and pulling out a ringbox he said, "and the last sentence is, 'Sarah Stone, will you be my wife?'" Before I even saw the ring my eyes welled up and I hugged him very tightly.
